Just glanced at my last post date - hard to believe it's been a week! But what a week it was - I took this photo this morning in the un-lit Dawg Star Bar after Janie (who is one of our bartenders here at Crestwood) decorated it last night in preparation for our 2nd Annual Ghoulish Gala....I love the eeriness of it all..

If you don't already know by now, I absolutely LOVE Halloween! Always have - especially growing up in the suburbs of Washington, D.C in the mid-sixties...Halloween was always about dressing up, finding the scariest houses, best decorated porches and of course the house that gave out the best treats (wax lips were always my favorites.....) Oh well I guess I'm showing my age, but Halloween was always a great time

to 'dress up' and 'be whoever you wanted to be'...

SO.....this Saturday - come out to Crestwood and be whoever you want to be!!!

A beautiful (but a bit cool and wet) day here at Crestwood. There is a flurry of activity everywhere - from the Spa, to Continental Breakfast being served, ringing phones, and trying to find a bit of time to decorate for Halloween (one of my personal favorite 'holidays'). Speaking of which - only 10 more days until our 2nd annual Ghoulish Gala...but more about that later.

I brought some pumpkins from our garden to Crestwood - I am now looking for someone who is willing to explore their creativity and carve their favorite jack-o-lantern face - to showcase throughout the Inn....any willing participants???? Happy carving...

No photo posting today - I was afraid I would be blown away by the gusts of winds that travel across the Terrace! A banner weekend both here at Crestwood and around the area; Wooly Worm Festival in Banner Elk, Valle Country Fair in Valle Crucis, Family Day at Appalachian State University, ASU Football on Saturday - just to name a few. Hope you all have a great weekend....

I chose this photo for today's blog in particular because it seemed to capture the mood of the weather we are currently having (overcast, cool and foggy - a traditional Blowing Rock fall). I personally like the two chairs in the center of the photo - its as if they are waiting for someone to come sit and enjoy the view. Of course another cozier option would be to sit in front of one of our fireplaces in the Library with a hot beverage and good book....

Here's a glimpse of some golden color at the front portico at Crestwood. A small fountain creates the sound of water upon your arrival. It is another beautiful (cool) fall day - I am finding it difficult to keep my eyes on the road while driving to Crestwood on Shulls Mill Road. The color of the leaves are vibrant and seem to have their own glow...

I haven't posted a blog these past few days as Crestwood has been extraordinarily busy with events - and on a personal note I took a bit of time off for myself - I (along with all my neighbors and anyone living here) am ready for another gorgeous week .

These photos were taken this morning from the Terrace at Crestwood. The colors are gorgeously vibrant, the sky is a clear blue, and it is the perfect fall day.

Another gorgeous (and windy!) day here at Crestwood. Everyone is busy preparing for the weekend - and a busy one it will be! Along Shulls Mill Road some of the green leaves are turning a beautiful light yellow - bringing a warm glow to the various pockets of light along the road.

Today's photo is a picture of the front entry reservation area. The Crestwood sign on the mantle was taken from the original stone front gate - a wrought iron piece custom made for the Mobergs. The original fireplace was wood-burning but has since been replaced with more efficient gas logs. On the mantle are old (and some new) photographs of the family.

The Dawg Star Bar and Grille at Crestwood Resort and Spa has an interesting history

both in it's location and name.

The Bar's original location was the Moberg's kitchen - which is clearly visible in the lower photo with all the wooden cabinets. With Jean's interior design background, she decided an Early American style kitchen was what she wanted for her summer home. Most of the original cabinets are still in use

housing various bar essentials and glasses.

The Dawg Star Bar name came from the Moberg's youngest son, Steve Moberg

whose nickname is Dawgman. And yes, that is Dawg with a W.

A beautiful, brisk October morning....fall is definetly in the air at 41 degrees with lots of movement in the sky here at Crestwood. I wanted to share an interior shot of the Main Dining Room. The stained glass "M" piece of artwork located above the credenza was an original piece owned by Claus and Jean Moberg. They uniquely placed it in a skylight for the best visual and 'color' effect. In addition, the credenza is one of many original pieces from the Moberg's home that can be found at Crestwood.

Welcome to Crestwood Resort and Spa. It's a gorgeous day here - so gorgeous that I wanted to share our view with fellow bloggers. This is a view from our Terrace showing (still) green foliage and the very well known Grandfather Mountain.
